Competitions Now Open for the 2026 Rockhampton Show
Published on 30 April 2026
Competitions for the 2026 Rockhampton Show presented by JBS Rockhampton are officially open, with locals of all ages encouraged to get involved, showcase their talents and celebrate the spirit of community that has defined the Show for generations.
From arts, crafts, cooking and horticulture to livestock, poultry, photography and school displays, this year’s competition program offers opportunities for everyone, whether they’re seasoned competitors or first‑time entrants looking to give it a go.
In 2026, the Show’s competition program continues to grow, proudly supported by JBS Rockhampton and strengthened by the success of recent years. With categories designed for every age, interest and skill level, the Show invites the community to showcase their creativity, craftsmanship and agricultural excellence.
Show Committee Member Councillor Grant Mathers said the Show’s competitions are at the heart of what makes the event such an iconic part of the region’s cultural calendar.
“The Rockhampton Show has always been about bringing people together, celebrating local talent and showcasing the incredible skills and passions within our community,” Cr Mathers said.
“We’re encouraging everyone from young creatives to experienced producers to enter a competition and be part of this much‑loved tradition.”
As part of the competition program, applications are also open for the 2026 Elders Rockhampton Show Showgirl and Rural Ambassador Awards, which recognise emerging leaders who embody the values of regional Queensland.
Rockhampton Region Councillor and Showgirl Committee Member Marika Taylor said these programs are not just about appearances or titles.
“They’re about encouraging leadership and connection and giving the next generation an opportunity to develop their personal skills while representing Rockhampton with pride at a regional and state level,” Councillor Taylor said.
“These awards are such a great way to gain confidence and take part in public speaking and community engagement opportunities - If you’re even considering applying, I’d encourage you to take that step. It’s an incredibly rewarding experience.”
The Showgirl Award, aimed at young women aged 18-28 years, focuses on leadership, communication skills and community involvement, and provides participants with opportunities to grow their confidence, expand their networks and advocate for their region over a 12-month term.
The Rural Ambassador Award is open to people of any gender aged 20-30 years who have a personal or professional connection to agriculture or rural life. While entrants do not need to live on a property, they must demonstrate a genuine interest in promoting rural life, regional communities and the agricultural sector.
Applicants have the opportunity to partake in the Rural Ambassador personal development program, which runs before and during the Show, equipping them with the confidence and capabilities to contribute more effectively in their chosen area of agriculture.
The winners of both Awards will be announced at the Rockhampton Show in June, and go on to represent the Rockhampton Show Society at the Central Queensland Sub-Chamber finals, with the potential to progress to the State Finals at the Ekka in August.
Applications for Showgirl and Rural Ambassador close on 10 May 2026. For eligibility criteria and application details, visit www.rockyshow.com.au/Showgirl
